When renting a house you will probably be asked to put down a security deposit. This is normal and is intended to provide the landlord with a means to repair any damage that might be incurred as a result of your rental. So far so good.

Something you want to make sure of is that the conditions for the return of the security deposit is stipulated in the rental agreement. Make sure that the rental agreement provides a time frame for the return of the security deposit. Make sure that the rental agreement spells out what kind of damage applies to the security deposit.

If you get this all stipulated before you sign the rental agreement you will know exactly when and if your security deposit will be returned.
